Just a couple of quick reminders for the Pinewood Derby event scheduled for Saturday, January 21^th at Mount Olivet. 

1.  We've got the setup on Friday, January 20^th starting at 7:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet.  Everyone is welcome to come by if you are interested in helping, and it should only take about 60 minutes to get everything in place. 

2.  The registration desk opens at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, and will stay open until 9:45 a.m.  Plan to arrive early if you are concerned about your car’s weight so you have time to make any adjustments that may be required. 

3.  The flag ceremony will be at 9:55 a.m.

4.  Racing will start at 10:00 a.m. (assuming everything goes as planned :-).  We will start racing the lions and keep a steady pace as we move through the dens.  In past years, racing has moved pretty quickly so we ask the scouts to stay and participate by cheering the other dens.     

5.  There will be a Custom Car race (aka Ultimate Division) for any parents, siblings, den leaders, etc. that have brought a car and want to compete. 

The rules for the Pinewood derby are listed at the below link.  Couple notes from past races.  

• Height – The cars are required to pass under our finish line so we can record timing.  If you are adding additional height to the block, make sure it is not too high
• Length – In the past people have added their weight to the front or back of the cars, making their car longer than the original wooden block.  If you want to add weight at the end make sure you cut down your block so that with the weights it does not exceed 7 inches.  
• Do not use any liquid lubricants as it can get on the track.  Graphite works well and does not get on the track.
